Macklin Celbrini the first overall pick in this year's draft has made a decision on where he'll play next season.

The San Jose Sharks announced on social media on Saturday that they have signed Macklin Celebrini, the first overall pick in the 2024 draft, to a three-year entry-level contract starting next season. Celebrini, a native of Vancouver, British Columbia, made history last season as the youngest player to win the Hobey Baker Award while playing for Boston University.

"Sharks fans, we (officially) got him 🔏" The Sharks said.

"OFFICIAL: #SJSharks sign Macklin Celebrini to a three-year, entry-level contract.

The 18-year old was the 1st overall pick in last week's 2024 #NHLDraft, had 64 pts in 38 GP in his freshman season for Boston University (NCAA)."

In his impressive 38-game run, Celebrini accumulated 64 points, including 32 goals and 32 assists, and a plus-25 rating. The contract signing settles the uncertainty around whether Celebrini would join the Sharks immediately or return to Boston University for another year. This development is exciting news for hockey enthusiasts in Northern California, as the Sharks are poised to move forward in their rebuild with a strong prospect pool and veteran players.

Celebrini's achievements at Boston University earned him numerous awards, including the Hobey Baker Award, and recognition as the National Rookie of the Year, New England Rookie of the Year, Hockey East Player of the Year, and Rookie of the Year. He also received All-American honors and was named to the Hockey East First Team All-Star and Hockey East All-Rookie Team.

The signing of Celebrini marks the beginning of a new era for the Sharks, and fans can look forward to seeing him on the ice next season. With Celebrini leading the team, the Sharks are expected to make significant progress in their rebuild, building on their strong prospect pool and veteran presence.
