TJ Oshie gets devastating news: Is his career over?
TJ Oshie has been a beloved player in the NHL for many years now although he has certainly struggled with injuries and remaining healthy.
The 37-year-old struggled through back problems all last year and now, it is all finally coming to a head. Today, it was revealed that Oshie would be placed on the long-term injury reserve, meaning the Washington Capitals will be without him all season. They cite lingering back issues as the main reason for the decision.
Oshie put out a statement on the manner in which he noted that he plans on working extremely hard towards a return. It is not going to be easy, but he wants to make it happen for his team. You have to appreciate a player who goes all out for their teammates like that.
"The last season was challenging for me, my family, and my teammates as I dealt with a chronic back injury that kept me out of the lineup," Oshie said in a statement. "I have used the offseason to explore and pursue long-term solutions for my injury. I remain committed to the process and am working and doing my best to regain total health. In the meantime, I will continue to help and support my teammates and the organization in any way I can. I greatly appreciate all of our fans' support during this time."
That said, one has to wonder if this is the end of the road for Oshie. Back issues are tough and you don't want to sacrifice the quality of your life for decades to come. Only time will tell whether or not he ever gets back on the ice.
