Alex Edler retires and the Vancouver Canucks do the right thing
If you are a Vancouver Canucks fan, then you most certainly remember Alex Edler and what a phenomenal player he was for the franchise.
Edler was drafted all the way back in 2004 and played 15 seasons with the Canucks. His final two years in the NHL were with the Los Angeles Kings, although his heart always remains in Vancouver. After sitting out all of last season, there was this sense that Edler was done with the game of hockey.
Well, that was confirmed as Edler announced his retirement from the game. Interestingly enough, Edler signed a one-day deal with the Canucks, and now, he will retire with the franchise.
"I am humbled and honoured to officially end my career and retire as a member of the Vancouver Canucks," said Edler. "I consider myself lucky to have started my career with such an outstanding organization, in this amazing city, with the best fans in the NHL. Finishing my NHL career where it all began is something very special for myself and my family."
Edler finishes his career with a whopping 1030 games played and a total off 439 points. 104 of those points were goals. He will be remembered for his big hits and gritty play. Some may describe him as dirty, while others would definitely say otherwise. Whatever the case may be, Canucks fans sure do love him.
