Hockey insider Frank Seravalli recently weighed in on Mark Stone's return to the Vegas Golden Knights lineup after a lengthy stint on the LTIR.

This marks the second consecutive year that Stone, the team's captain, is poised to return just as the NHL season wraps up.

"Vegas Golden Knights captain Mark Stone cleared to resume practicing with team"

"Huge eye roll here. I've reported all along that the lacerated spleen is a legitimate, serious injury. There's been no shenanigans.

But man, Stone coming back to practice for second year in a row one week before playoffs is some seriously fortuitous timing."

While no one doubts the severity of Stone's injury, a lacerated spleen, some fans and analysts can't help but notice the convenient timing.

It's stirred up speculation that the Golden Knights might be using Stone's return as a strategic move to skirt the salary cap constraints.

This wouldn't be the first instance of NHL teams deploying such tactics, both the Tampa Bay Lightning and previously the Golden Knights have faced similar scrutiny after making deep playoff runs, potentially aided by late-season returns from key players on LTIR.

Despite the chatter, the Golden Knights are still on the hook to secure their playoff spot. Stone, who is 31 years old, played in 56 games this season before his injury, contributing 53 points, which included 16 goals.

His return could provide a critical boost, but it's clear the path to the playoffs remains a challenge.
