It's playoff time in the NHL, and again this season Mark Stone was out for the majority of the year on LTIR.

While it is necessary, for teams to navigate their salary cap constraints competently to field the best NHL team, their Captain is consistently injured and hasn't played the majority of the year, with a lacerated spleen.

With Mark Stone returning to practice, donning a non-contact jersey, and with Tomas Hertl slotting into the Golden Knights lineup, it creates an issue with salary management.

It helps that the NHL is lax on their salary cap rules during the playoffs, so teams can be flexible to roster who is needed and make call-ups if necessary.

"Mark Stone has been cleared to practice with the team on the ice as he continues to recover from a lacerated spleen sustained on February 20.

Stone is expected to participate in a non-contact jersey beginning on Friday during the team's morning skate."

Vegas' management of their salary cap and talent has raised questions and debate among NHL fans and pundits everywhere, as it seems unfair how they can manipulate the cap to benefit them when it counts, like the post-season.

It seems like a hot topic the NHL and NHLPA should consider discussing in future contracts.
