After moving to Salt Lake City from Arizona, the team wants to put on a good show. Well, as it turns out, the franchise has been wheeling and dealing before training camp. In fact, they committed a pretty hefty heist on the Boston Bruins by stealing their goaltending prospect, Reid Dyck.
Dyck was taken by the Bruins in the sixth round of the 2022 NHL Entry Draft. The Swift Current Broncos goalie couldn't secure a deal with the Bruins, and Utah HC picked him up instead. In fact, you can see Dyck on the roster for the team's rookie camp.
The Boston Bruins will certainly be upset about this loss. After all, they are currently in contract talks with Jeremy Swayman. Furthermore, they lost Linus Ullmark via trade. Lastly, Brandon Bussi is unproven, and it would certainly be a risk to go with him as the backup. When you put all of this together, you get a less-than-optimal goaltending situation for the Bs.
Meanwhile, last season with the Broncos, Dyck had a respectable season. He had a 2.70 goals-against average and a save % of 0.911. For a league like the WHL, that is certainly solid, especially when you consider how he had 25 wins in 35 starts.
