Back in June, former NHL Stephane Veilleux suffered severe injuries when he got into a car crash caused by a teenager who ran a stop sign.

The former Minnesota Wild player had multiple fractures to his C1 vertebra. Furthermore, he has been forced to wear a Halo vest so that his neck is immobilized for three months. This is a long road to recovery for Veilleux, however, he seems to be taking it all in stride.
In a new piece from Michael Russo of The Athletic, Veilleux displayed some gratitude. Furthermore, he revealed how things could have been much worse. He could have been paralyzed, or he even could have died. Having said that, Veilleux is at peace with how things have gone.
"I'm lucky to not be paralyzed ... or worse," Veilleux explained.

Got to feed those bones. I'm trying to support myself with calcium and magnesium and all the natural stuff to heal. No different than when I played hockey with eating and being disciplined... I'm attacking this like a hockey player.

Luckily, Veilleux is not going through this alone. His children, as well as his ex-wife, are all by his side in this endeavor. It just goes to show that having people around you always helps provide some strength.
Did you know the Veilleux was going through this battle? We wish him nothing but the best in his recovery. Stay tuned to Hockey Unplugged for the latest news and updates from around the hockey world.
