Dylan Guenther was selected ninth overall by the Arizona Coyotes back in 2021 and while he has spent much of his time with the Tuscon Roadrunners, he did show promise last season.

In 45 games with the Coyotes, he had 18 goals and 17 assists for 35 points. He has a lot of potential and he is expected to go the whole season with the Utah Hockey Club in 2024-25. That said, the Coyotes felt that it was important to lock him up to a massive contract so that he could be their future franchise player.
According to Elliotte Friedman, the Utah Hockey Club is about to sign Guenther to an 8-year deal worth over $7 million AAV. Considering where he is in his career, this is pretty significant.
One could make the argument that this deal makes absolutely no sense at all. Guenther had a solid stretch with the Coyotes last season. However, that doesn't mean he has done enough to deserve this kind of deal. In many respects, it feels extremely premature. That said, Utah HC knows that the salary cap is going to continue expanding and it's a bet they are willing to make right now. You have to respect the gumption.
Do you believe that Guenther is worth this kind of money? Let us know in the poll down below and stay tuned to Hockey Unplugged for the latest news and updates from around the hockey world. We will continue to keep you informed on all of your favorite players and favorite teams.
