Ryan Reaves is reportedly going to get hit with a harsh reality check, very soon
Ryan Reaves was a healthy scratch for much of last season, and the Toronto Maple Leafs quite frankly did not know what to do with him,
Four goals, two assists, and some fights are typically not enough to keep someone in a lineup long-term. This is especially true when you have prospects like Fraser Minten and Easten Cowan coming down the pipeline. Having said that, there is a growing suspicion that new head coach Craig Berube will be looking to get Reaves out of the lineup on a permanent basis.
Additionally, this would affect David Kampf, who would just be a victim of circumstance. For Reaves, however, it could spell the end of his career given the fact that he is 37 and his services aren't as needed in today's NHL.
Having said all of that, Editor In Leaf made a good point, noting that Berube understands what Reaves has gone through. Regardless, Berube is the coach, and he will have to leave emotions out of his decisions.
"Since Berube played a similar role to Reaves during his NHL career, he might have a soft spot for the bruising forward and what he brings to the team. Then again, he's a professional who is likely able to avoid making emotional decisions."
