Toronto Star Player William Nylander Shocks Maple Leafs Fans
In the ongoing NHL Global Series, Toronto Maple Leafs forward William Nylander continues to make waves, extending his remarkable point streak to 17 consecutive games as of Sunday morning.
In the matchup held in his homeland of Sweden, Nylander added another assist to his name, contributing to a goal by Maple Leafs' standout forward, Auston Matthews.
Nylander's latest feat places him in exclusive company within NHL history, as his current streak ties him with three other legends for the eighth-longest point streak at the beginning of a season. Sharing this milestone are former Detroit Red Wings captain Henrik Zetterberg, Edmonton Oilers captain Connor McDavid, and former Buffalo Sabres forward Dave Andreychuk. Should Nylander reach an 18th game, he would join the ranks of NHL greats Marcel Dion and Bill Cowley in a three-way tie for sixth place.
Remarkably, among the active players in today's NHL, only Nylander and Connor McDavid have achieved the impressive feat of starting a season with 17 straight games earning at least one point.
