During that rookie season, he has 57 points. Although his production suffered last season, dropping to 37 points in just three fewer games, the Seattle Kraken still love what they are seeing from the 21-year-old. So much so that they have been working on a contract extension that is certainly going to blow the roof off of the market for young talent.
According to Elliotte Friedman, the Kraken and Beniers are close to finalizing a deal. So far, it seems like the extension will be for seven years and it will be worth around $7 million per year. Friedman believes it could be very close to $50 million total.
Overall, this will be an interesting deal for the Kraken, who are in the midst of building their franchise. Clearly, they see Beniers as the future of the team, and they want to make sure he is treated as such. Only time will tell whether or not he will continue to develop into a bonafide superstar.
