In his latest edition of "32 Thoughts," insider Elliotte Friedman floated the idea of a potential reunion between the Ottawa Senators and defenseman Erik Karlsson.
Friedman Suggests a Possible Reunion Between the Senators and Erik Karlsson Could Be Challenging But Feasible
It's been less than a year since Erik Karlsson landed in Pittsburgh through a significant three-way trade involving the San Jose Sharks and the Montreal Canadiens.
However, Karlsson's performance in Pittsburgh hasn't quite lived up to the lofty expectations set by fans and management. Despite solid stats (seven goals, 32 assists, and a +8 rating in 53 games), he hasn't made the anticipated impact.
With the Penguins teetering on the edge of a playoff spot, the possibility of Karlsson being traded isn't out of the question.
Friedman speculates that the Ottawa Senators could entertain the idea.
"Please recognize that this is manifesting purely in my head. But, as I watch Daniel Alfredsson on the bench in Ottawa, I can't help but wonder if the Senators consider a Karlsson reunion. At least, brainstorm it. Yes, it's complicated and yes, everyone would have to be on board. But no one mind-melds with Karlsson like Alfredsson, and, since it got into my head, I can't stop thinking about the possibility of it.»
A Potential Deal Involving Karlsson between the Penguins and Senators Is Conceivable, But Several Factors Must Be Considered The Ottawa Senators find themselves falling short of expectations once again in what was anticipated to be a breakthrough season. They could opt to offload assets to secure top-tier players.
