Canadiens defenseman Chris Wideman has announced his retirement

Montreal Canadiens defenseman Chris Wideman has decided to hang up his skates, announcing his retirement after a 12-year professional hockey career.

This season, Wideman, 34, was sidelined by a significant injury that ultimately led him to conclude his playing days.

#Canadiens 🇨🇦 defenseman Chris Wideman 🇺🇸 has retired from professional hockey at the age of 34.

Wideman played 291 games in the NHL from 2015-2023 with Ottawa, Edmonton, Florida, and Montreal, putting up 20 goals and 78 points in that span � he hasn't played at all this season due to injury.

He also had 19 games played with the United States of America's national team, scoring two goals, six points and claiming a Bronze Medal 🥉🇺🇸

He was drafted 100th overall by Ottawa in 2009.

Wideman's career in the NHL spanned six years, during which he suited up for 291 games, mostly with the Ottawa Senators and later, the Canadiens. He tallied 78 points, proving to be a dependable presence on the blue line.
