The former Pittsburgh Penguins player Jesse Puljujarvi signed a new NHL deal and was placed on waivers by his new team.

Less than a month after seeing the Pittsburgh Penguins terminate his contract, Jesse Puljujarvi officially signed a new NHL deal.
Indeed, the Edmonton Oilers' 4th overall pick in 2016 agreed to the terms of a $775,000 contract with the Florida Panthers for the remainder of the season.
Per Chris Johnston:
Elliotte Friedman confirmed that Puljujarvi was placed on the NHL waiver wire, alongside three other players: Detroit Red Wings' Christian Fischer, Boston Bruins' Jordan Oesterle, and Jakub Vrana:
The 6-foot-4 forward scored nine points, including three goals, in 26 games with the Penguins this season.
In February, he signed a professional tryout contract with the Charlotte Checkers in the AHL and proved that he deserved a standard deal with the Panthers, scoring three points in seven games.
Charlotte Checkers' head coach Geordie Kinnear opened up on Puljujarvi after he signed his PTO:
"We're super excited to have Jesse as a part of our group. You look at the pedigree and where he's been - he's looking for an opportunity. I think he'll be a great fit with how we play as a group. Super excited to have him and he's super excited to be here. I'm a big believer in our environment and how we can maximize everyone's skill set. I'm looking forward to that challenge."

By acquiring him, the Panthers added a player who will help their AHL affiliate team remain competitive in the playoff race and serve as a potential replacement option in case of injuries during the Panthers' playoff run.
Puljujarvi talked about his new opportunity in a recent interview:
"This is the way - what I need to do to get maybe one more chance to be an NHL player,» he said. «I felt that I have an opportunity here with a good group of guys - I heard there's many injuries here so I can be a good part of this team here and help the guys get the goal here. Part of that is I can be the best version of myself and get the next step and hopefully that helps me get my big goal of being an NHL player."

"I feel like I'm still pretty young - I'm turning 27 this summer - and I feel like after the big surgery I still have things I can, of course, improve,» said Puljujarvi, referencing a major procedure he had on both hips in the summer of 2023. «I can be better."
