Red Wings forward J.T Compher gets cut in the face by skate blade
The Detroit Red Wings, on a crucial playoff chase, faced off against the Montreal Canadiens in what's billed as a do-or-die matchup for them this spring.
The game took a tense turn early on when Red Wings forward J.T. Compher suffered a facial cut after a freak collision. It happened as Red Wings defenseman Moritz Seider and Canadiens winger Juraj Slafkovsk scrambled for the puck. In the heat of the moment, Slafkovsk's leg kicked up, striking Compher unexpectedly in the face.
JT Compher left the game after taking a skate blade to the face.
Hopefully he's alright. Scary.
Compher had to leave the ice for medical attention and did not return to the game. Fortunately, he managed to skate off the ice by himself, which is a positive sign. The hope is that the Illinois native won't be sidelined for long.
This season marks Compher's first with Detroit after he inked a five-year deal worth a $5.1 million annual cap hit last summer. Through 76 games, he has netted 19 goals and tallied a total of 48 points, proving to be a valuable asset to the team's lineup.
