Top Contender Targeting Mikko Rantanen and Brayden Schenn as Trade Deadline Looms
Mikko Rantanen and Brayden Schenn are two of the biggest names on the trade market, with the Vegas Golden Knights reportedly set to target both players.
The 2025 NHL trade deadline is heating up, and with just a few days before the deadline, the belief around the NHL is that we are about to see the landscape of the league changed in a big way.
Two potential names that could be on the move to facilitate that change are Brayden Schenn and Mikko Rantanen, with the latter potentially on the move despite being acquired by the Carolina Hurricanes just a month ago.
Now, to the surprise of no NHL fan, Elliotte Friedman has linked the Vegas Golden Knights to both players, with the team ready to have yet another trade deadline full of splashes.
«I think if Rantanen's there, they take a shot. Can they do it? I don't know. But they'll take their shot. Brayden Schenn, I think they're in and around it. They'll take their shot. I don't know if it's gonna end up going their way - there're definitely teams that can outbid them with what they've got. I think they will add scoring somewhere, but I just look at them and I say, 'I always assume the big swing first.'»
It's unclear from this reporting whether or not the Golden Knights would go after both if they landed one or if Friedman simply believes that both Schenn and Rantanen are on Vegas' trade board, but at this point, it's hard to discount them from acquiring anyone in the NHL.
At this point, all signs point towards one or the other or both players being traded in the next few days, and with Vegas reportedly looming, expect them to put their best offer forward on both players as they look to chase down their second Stanley Cup in franchise history.
