Sidney Crosby has been linked to Nathan MacKinnon for years now, and after speculation heated up, the Penguins captain addressed the possibility ahead of a matchup with the Colorado Avalanche.
The Pittsburgh Penguins take on the Colorado Avalanche on Tuesday night, and unsurprisingly, that meant questions were being asked about the stars of both teams, Sidney Crosby and Nathan MacKinnon.
For years now, the duo, who both hail from Cole Harbour in Nova Scotia have been constantly linked to each other, and given the trajectory of the Pittsburgh Penguins franchise, that often results in hypotheticals where Crosby heads West to Colorado.
After teaming up at the Four Nations, Crosby was asked if he was aware how many Avalanche fans want to see the duo together, and in typical Sid fashion, he downplayed the possibility.
I'm sure there's a lot of hypotheticals out there.
Not skipping a beat, the
Penguins PR team quickly reminded reporters that they'll be seen together again next February at the 2026 Olympic Games, with Team Canada looking to follow up on their Four Nations success in what could potentially be Crosby's last international tournament.
On the inside, there's a very good chance that Crosby indeed wants to team up with MacKinnon, who grew up idolizing the Penguins captain, but given his commitment to the team has not waivered for the past two decades, it's unlikely to change anytime soon.
Still, there are those fans that hold out hope we could see the two at the NHL level together in the near future, but unless No. 87 changes his very public stance where he is committed to the Penguins now and for the next two years after 2024/25, the chances of it happening are very low.
