Edmonton Oilers GM Has Been Eyeing Former Stanly Cup Champion
The Edmonton Oilers are in a tight spot, and General Manager Ken Holland is actively seeking goaltending help. The latest rumor, as reported by Reid Wilkins of 630 CHED in Edmonton, is that Holland is eyeing Stanley Cup champion Jordan Binnington from the St. Louis Blues.
There's no doubt that Binnington played a crucial role in the Blues' Stanley Cup victory in 2019, turning their season around when he joined. The team went from the bottom of the league to a championship contender.
Binnington earned a well-deserved big contract after that victory, with three years remaining at an annual cap hit of $6 million. The catch? The Oilers would need to make some room in their salary cap to accommodate him.
With the Oilers' desperation for solid goaltending, Holland might just be willing to take that step, as his job security is on the line this season, and missing the playoffs would likely cost him his position.
