Red Wings general manager Steve Yzerman has kept a cool head while in management until his Red Wings missed the playoffs this season due to a poor call by a referee. After his team was eliminated, Yzerman called out the referees for this flagrant miss.
The plain question happened during the Washington capitals Philadelphia Flyers game where the puck was shot and hit Charlie Lindgren to which the referees blew the play dead as they lost track of the puck. Within a few seconds the puck dropped right in front of the capitals net to which it hit Flyers forward Joel Farabee and into the net.
It was ruled a non continuous play and it was hit by Farabee after the whistle went.
During his final press conference of the season, Yzerman stated that the goal should have counted.
"Philly should have got credit for a goal in the first period, that was a terrible call. And then what happened with that one?" - Steve Yzerman
This goal would have changed the dynamic of the game and it would be likely that the Flyers would not have pulled their goaltender as the team would have been up 2-1.
It's a terrible circumstance for the Red Wings as they would have passed the 91 point tie and are forced to sit out of the playoffs while the Capitals take on the New York Rangers.
