Fans make fun of Florida Panthers national anthem singers performance
The National Hockey League has witnessed a broad range of national anthem performances, from the sublime to the dismal. Today's rendition before the Tampa Bay Lightning faced the Florida Panthers at Amerant Bank Arena arguably set a new low.
It takes courage to sing in front of thousands live and many more on TV. Unfortunately, today's anthem was poorly received, drawing comparisons to Roseanne Barr's notorious performance.
One wonders about the selection process for such a pivotal moment. It seems a lapse allowed someone unprepared to take on such a significant role. Critics might even suggest the Panthers deserved to lose for setting a somber tone with the anthem, although its impact on the game's outcome is symbolic at best.
For those who missed it, the performance was notably off-key. It might be time for the Panthers to review their criteria for choosing anthem singers.
Despite the anthem mishap, the game itself saw the Florida Panthers eke out a 3-2 victory over the Lightning, proving once again that the real action in sports lies in the game itself.
