Overall, Riemsdyk had a solid year with the Boston Bruins in 2023-24 as he finished the year with a total of 38 points. However, this doesn't seem to have been enough to get teams to want to sign him. He has struggled to find a contract, and it appears as though he may just have to submit to a last resort, sooner than he may have wanted.
In a report from Evan Rawal of Colorado Hockey Now, it was posited that van Riemsdyk could be the perfect PTO candidate for the Avalanche. At 35 years old, he can still be productive, and he would bring some extra leadership to the Avs, who are trying to recreate the success they saw back in 2022.
Van Riemsdyk has a total of 629 points throughout his career, which includes a commendable 311 goals. He also played for the Philadelphia Flyers and Toronto Maple Leafs. On top of all of this, he even got drafted second overall back in 2007. No matter what happens, he had a great career. It would just be a shame if this is how it all ended.
Hopefully, a team will give van Riemsdyk a chance, especially knowing what he can do. However, as many know, the game of hockey can be cruel, so there is no telling what is going to happen next.
