Colorado Avalanche captain Gabriel Landeskog hasn't stepped on the ice for an NHL game since the end of the 2021-2022 season, but fans and everyone that's curious about his status moving forward may not have to wait long for some clarity as reports indicate that a press conference featuring the star left winger and Avalanche general manager has been scheduled for 9:30 Thursday.
Landeskog, who had cartilage transplant surgery a year ago had hoped to return at some point this season but he supposedly got to the point where he felt it wasn't possible and determined it would wise to focus on whether or not he would be able to continue his career next season.
While Cale Makar is maybe the finest defenseman in the world and Nathan MacKinnon is certainly the best player in the league right now, the Avalanche missed his leadership and presence during this season's playoffs. Still, he remains a vital member of the team.
Less than a week ago, Avalanche head coach Jared Bednar had some thoughts about Landeskog, how he wanted to play, and that his sole focus is to get to the point where he is able to join Colorado.

It appears, though, that Bednar and the other players in the franchise merely want their captain back. They are aware that anything is possible for Landeskog given his spirit and ambition, despite the fact that the cards are stacked against him.
