Calgary Flames prospect Topi Ronni faced sentencing in a Finnish court this week following accusations of assault dating back to 2021.

Ronni appeared before a judge in Finland on Tuesday as the jury reached a unanimous decision. The court handed Ronni a one-year conditional sentence, along with a 2,500 Euro fine ($3,683.65 CAD), to be paid to his accuser.

"During Tuesday, the verdict came. The 19-year-old is convicted of r*pe and sentenced to a year's conditional imprisonment by the district court, Ilta-Sanomat reports . The judgment can be appealed to the Court of Appeal.

In addition to the prison sentence, Ronni is also obliged to compensate the victim with 2,500 euros (almost 28,000 kroner) for the suffering caused by the r*pe, as well as pay the court costs for the victim." Hockeysverige said.

Ronni, who was part of Finland's 2023 World Junior team, did not make the cut for the 2024 squad. In 22 games for Tappara in Finland's top division, Liiga, Ronni has recorded two points (one goal, one assist), six penalty minutes, and is a minus-one.

As of now, neither Tappara Tampere, Ronni's club, nor the Calgary Flames have commented on the recent conviction by the Finnish court.
