Two well-known individuals have auditioned to replace Jack Edwards
NESN Auditions for Replacement of Long-Time Bruins Announcer Jack Edwards
The 2024-25 NHL season will bring significant changes for Boston Bruins fans as they bid farewell to a familiar voice. After 19 years as the play-by-play announcer for Bruins hockey games on NESN, Jack Edwards has decided to retire. The search for his replacement is underway, with two prominent names already auditioning for the role.
According to a report from the Boston Globe, the network has been actively seeking a successor for Edwards. The Globe mentions that NESN has already auditioned Judd Sirott and Tom Caron, two well-known figures among Boston sports fans, with Edwards' long-time color commentator Andy Brickley.
"I'm told approximately six potential candidates to succeed the retired Jack Edwards have auditioned with color analyst Andy Brickley.
They include a couple of candidates with NHL broadcasting experience outside the market, as well as Judd Sirott, who has called Bruins games on 98.5 The Sports Hub since the 2017-18 season, and longtime NESN host and play-by-play voice Tom Caron, who I noted a couple weeks back has extensive game-calling experience even though he might be best known to Boston sports fans for his work as a Red Sox studio anchor.
The Bruins will have some say in the hire."
Edwards stepped down in April, citing earlier in the year that he had been working with a speech therapist to address moments of slowed speech. The 67-year-old was a beloved figure for many Bruins fans, recognized for his passionate loyalty to the team and receiving a Stanley Cup Championship ring from the Bruins after their 2011 victory. However, he also sparked controversy with some of his statements over the years.
As NESN continues the search for Edwards' replacement, fans eagerly await the announcement of who will become the new voice of Bruins hockey. The new play-by-play announcer will have big shoes to fill and will play a crucial role in shaping the viewing experience for the loyal fan base.
