Matthew Tkachuk admits he broke an important rule with the Stanley Cup
Just a day after winning the Stanley Cup with the Florida Panthers, star forward Matthew Tkachuk broke an important rule while celebrating with his teammates.
Winning the Stanley Cup is one of the greatest feelings for hockey players. All the hard work pays off when they finally lift the Cup, but there are rules to follow when handling the trophy. Apparently, Matthew Tkachuk didn't get the memo.
According to David Dwork of The Hockey News, Tkachuk had no idea he wasn't supposed to take the Stanley Cup into the Atlantic Ocean.
"We had nobody with us to say, Matthew, don't be an idiot.'" Matthew Tkachuk didn't know it was against the rules to take the Stanley Cup into the ocean. It also wasn't his idea, and he's making sure proper credit is given.
Matthew Tkatchuk insisted he was unaware of the rule and made sure his brother, Brady, got credit for the idea. He explained the situation during his official day with the Stanley Cup at the St. Louis Children's Hospital.
"I did not know that wasn't allowed, I promise you," Tkachuk told KSDK News. "It was the day after I won, I still hadn't slept at that point, and it was just me and a few of my teammates. We had nobody with us to say, Matthew, don't be an idiot. Don't do that.' So I thought it was fitting, but if I would have known I wasn't supposed to do it, I wouldn't have done it, but also, I think it's pretty funny."
Tkachuk's unintended rule-breaking has become a humorous story, likely endearing him even more to Panthers fans. Despite the mishap, it's a memorable and amusing moment in his Stanley Cup celebration.
