Jeremy Swayman's agent has a strong message for Cam Neely after recent call out
Jeremy Swayman and the Boston Bruins are currently in a bad contract negotiation and many believe this is going to end in tears for both sides.
Earlier today, Cam Neely tried to force the issue and intimidate Swayman into signing. He said that the team offered Swayman $64 million and that he left it on the table. That would equal an eight-year deal worth $8 million per year. However, many took issue with the way in which Neely tried to get his goalie's attention.
Now, Lewis Gross, the agent for Swayman, is speaking out. In fact, he is now claiming that the Bruins never offered Swayman that kind of money. Today's press conference is allegedly the first time they heard this number. Now, they will reevaluate where to go from here.
"Normally, I do not release statements or discuss negotiations through the media. However, in this case, I feel I need to defend my client. At today's press conference, $64 million was referenced. This was the first time that number was discussed in our negotiations. Prior to the press conference, no offer was made reaching that level. We are extremely disappointed. This was not fair to Jeremy. We will take a few days to discuss where we go from here."
If Gross is telling the truth, then this looks absolutely terrible on the Boston Bruins. However, it is hard to know who is really telling the truth right now. No matter what, this has been a bad situation for all parties involved. At this stage, some wonder if Swayman will remains with the Boston Bruins past October.
