Boston Bruins Rookie Makes NHL history During His Debut
Mason Lohrei made NHL history tonight, becoming the first player from Louisiana to hit the ice in an NHL game. With this milestone, the NHL now boasts players from 42 different states across the United States.
Lohrei, a 22-year-old defenseman, was a second-round pick in the 2020 NHL Entry Draft. He showcased his skills last season while playing for Ohio State University, where he notched an impressive 32 points in 40 games.
In the current season, as a member of the Providence Bruins in the AHL, he contributed with 4 assists in 7 games.
Lohrei's call-up to the big leagues came in light of Charlie McAvoy's four-game suspension for a head-check, which McAvoy intends to appeal.
This opportunity places Lohrei in an already youthful defensive lineup as he prepares to face off against the Toronto Maple Leafs in his NHL debut.
