One of the most well-known players available as a free agent this summer is Tyler Toffoli. The former Stanley Cup champion is coming off of two seasons in which he scored thirty goals or more, and a contending team in need of scoring depth may find value in adding him to their middle six.
There will be plenty of interest in Tyler Toffoli once the market opens on Canada Day and according to David Pagnotta of The Fourth Period, 2 teams that could be in the mix are the Los Angeles Kings and Vancouver Canucks. Pagnotta says that the Kings and Canucks had interest in trading for Toffoli this season, before he was traded to Winnipeg.
The resident of Scarborough, Ontario, is familiar with both teams. Before being transferred to the Vancouver Canucks in 2020, he was selected by the Kings in 2010 and played for them for a portion of eight seasons, earning a Stanley Cup in 2014. Between the regular season and the playoffs, Toffoli played in 17 games for Vancouver, tallying eight goals.
With the New Jersey Devils and Winnipeg Jets, Toffoli played in 79 games this season, recording 55 points (33 goals, 22 assists), 14 penalty minutes, and a minus-six rating. In five games during the Stanley Cup Playoffs, he added two more goals.
Unrestricted free agency will start in one month, and with many teams in need of scoring, it will be interesting to watch where Tyler Toffoli ends up and how many teams make an offer to sign him.
