Saddening News As Former First Round Pick Passes Away At 42-Years Old
The hockey community is mourning the loss of a familiar face, as reports from Belarusian media on Monday evening have confirmed the passing of Konstantin Koltsov, the former Pittsburgh Penguins first-rounder, at the age of 42.
This news, originally shared in Russian, detailed that Koltsov was in Miami, USA, at the time of his passing, as noted by BelarusHockey.com on March 19, just before 1 AM.

Born in Minsk, Belarus, Koltsov was picked 18th overall in the 1999 NHL Entry Draft by the Penguins and played 144 games for the team from the 2002-03 to the 2005-06 seasons. Throughout his time in the NHL, he notched 38 points, including 12 goals and 26 assists, accumulated 50 penalty minutes, and finished with a minus-42 rating.

Transitioning into a coaching role post-retirement, Koltsov faced another turn in his career path when, just hours before his death was announced, news broke that he would not return as an assistant coach with Salavat.
