It's with heavy hearts that we share sad news from the hockey world this Thursday afternoon, as reports confirm the passing of legendary Hockey Night in Canada broadcaster Bob Cole.

CBC, Cole's longtime home, broke the news of his passing at the age of 90 in a statement on their website earlier today.

"Bob Cole, whose voice and lively language were the Saturday night soundtrack to hockey games over a broadcasting career that spanned more than half a century, has died." CBC said.

Cole's daughter, Megan, expressed gratitude to fans for their love and appreciation of her father's work throughout the years.

"Thank you for decades of love for his work, love of Newfoundland and love of hockey," Megan Cole told CBC News on Thursday.

Bob Cole's illustrious career began on the radio in the 1960s before transitioning to television in 1973. For over five decades, he was a staple of Hockey Night in Canada broadcasts, captivating audiences with his iconic voice until his retirement at the close of the 2018-19 season.

From thrilling moments at the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City, Utah, to countless memories etched in the hearts of Canadian fans, Cole's legacy will endure.

Our heartfelt thoughts are with Cole's family, friends, and former colleagues during this difficult time.
