Jacob Trouba admits he was missing a 'big chunk of his ankle' for the playoffs

NHL insider Mollie Walker disclosed that New York Rangers player Jacob Trouba competed despite a near-disabling injury.

By the end of the playoffs, the majority of hockey players are battling with some kind of injury. The crippling injury that New York Rangers captain Jacob Trouba was dealing with had a significant negative effect on his play. Trouba declined to use the injury as a justification for his performance.
Trouba revealed that a significant portion of his ankle was gone during the year-end locker room clean out. The following was reported by Mollie Walker:
Jacob Trouba played with a broken ankle in playoffs after "losing a big chunk of his ankle" during the season.
Dan Rosen provided some additional context about the injury:
Jacob Trouba broke his ankle late in the regular season, which is why he missed time. It wasn't weight-bearing so he could walk but skating with tight turns didn't feel good. He was limited at times by it, but he emphasized that it is not an excuse for anything.
This ailment may be the cause of some of the problems Trouba ran into in the conference finals. At times, the defender seemed to be pursuing the game and was caught out of position. enduring suffering. Such a serious injury only serves to highlight Trouba's resilience and the reasons he was named the Mark Messier Leadership Award winner.
