Former New York Islanders head coach Lane Lambert could join Craig Berube's staff at the Toronto Maple Leafs, according to TSN's Darren Dreger. Although he did not say exactly what Lambert's responsibilities would be, it is likely that he will serve as an associate coach or assistant coach.
Hockey Hall of Famer Patrick Roy took over as head coach of the New York Islanders after Lambert, 59, was sacked in January after serving as such for portions of the previous two seasons. In 2011, he started his NHL coaching career with the Nashville Predators. He later won a Stanley Cup with the Washington Capitals and the New York Islanders.
Lambert worked with the forwards while serving as an assistant coach for the Washington Capitals and New York Islanders. He was more successful with the former team than the latter. With Mitch Marner, Auston Matthews, William Nylander, and other forwards in the lineup, he will have plenty of talent if he joins the Maple Leafs and takes on a similar role.
The Toronto Maple Leafs have not yet made this trade official, but it's likely to happen before this month's NHL Entry Draft, so keep an eye out for that announcement.
