Some sad news is coming out of the hockey world today as it was revealed that Jason Cirone has passed away at the age of 53 after a battle with cancer.

For those who may not know, Cirone is a Toronto-born hockey player who became a big star in Italy following a brief stint with the Winnipeg Jets. He played for Asiago and amassed 194 points with the team. Furthermore, during the 2000s, he went to live in Italy and ended up playing for their National team. He even got to play at the Olympic games in 2006.
He was a player who meant a lot to the country and he is beloved for helping to grow the game in a place that is mostly known for soccer.

Cirone was drafted by the Jets all the way back in 1989 and he was the 46th overall pick. Unfortunately, he never truly caught on with the team as he only played three games. That said, his overseas success made him a legend in his own right.
Our heart goes out to the Cirone family during this very difficult time. Cancer is certainly one of the worst diseases in the world and has taken so many good people far too soon. We hope his family is able to get the support they need as they navigate this awful tragedy.
