Canucks steal their next head coach away from Toronto Maple Leafs
Former assistant coach of the Toronto Maple Leafs' Manny Malhotra has been formally hired by the Vancouver Canucks.
This season, the Toronto Maple Leafs were going to need to make changes, and a number of rumors have indicated that they weren't done with their coaching staff overhaul even after they hired experienced coach Craig Berube. Manny Malhotra, the assistant coach for Toronto, officially announced his departure from the team today.
The following news was shared by the Vancouver Canucks X account, which provided it.
General Manager Patrik Allvin announces that Manny Malhotra has been hired as the new head coach of the Abbotsford Canucks.
Malhotra issued the following statement:
«Being able to return the to the Vancouver Canucks organization is an incredible opportunity for both me and my family,» said Malhotra. «Getting the chance to help develop the next wave of young talent is an honour and a privilege. We have a lot of good prospects in the group, and I can't wait to get started on the ice. I would like to thank the Toronto Maple Leafs as well for providing me the opportunity to work with them the past four years.»
Malhotra worked on the penalty kill and the power play during his tenure in Toronto before focusing on face-offs in the previous campaign. This will be his first position as a head coach in the professional ranks, and it will allow him to rejoin the team that has given him the most success throughout his career.
