The assault resulted in the referee suffering a skull and jaw fracture, broken teeth, and a concussion. The referee was struck multiple times with the player's stick, leaving the official seriously injured and the hockey community in shock.

Following the attack, the National Ball Hockey Players Association issued a statement addressing the incident:
«A tragedy happened yesterday,» the French statement read. «A referee who expelled a player from the match was attacked by the offending player. He received a stick blow to the chest followed by a stick blow (with both hands) directly to the face! The referee is seriously injured.»
The association also announced that the player responsible for the attack has been handed a lifetime ban. They expressed their wishes for the referee's speedy recovery and emphasized the seriousness of the incident.
These violent outbursts are unacceptable, especially at the recreational and club levels where participants are involved out of love for the sport and a desire to stay active. Incidents like the one in Quebec highlight the need for stricter measures to protect officials and participants from such dangerous behavior.
