In a recent appearance at the PrimeTime Sports Management Conference, NHLPA Executive Director Martin Walsh didn't mince words when addressing concerns about potential expansion teams. Instead, he emphasized the pressing need to address the Arizona Coyotes current situation, highlighting their less-than-ideal setup in a college arena.

Walsh emphasized the importance of providing a suitable environment for NHL players, expressing concern about the Coyotes playing in a college venue.

"They're playing right now in a college arena, 5,100 fans that go to those games, and they don't sell out. I think that's the first thing we have to do, figure out what is the long-term play on Arizona. Those players are National Hockey League players. They deserve to play in a National Hockey League rink."

The Coyotes have been playing at the University of Arizona's Mullet Arena since the 2022-23 season, and Walsh highlighted the lack of concrete action or progress in finding a more permanent solution. Despite promises to address the issue, Walsh pointed out that as of mid-November, speculation outweighs tangible efforts, and he expressed a desire to see more decisive action to resolve the Coyotes' predicament.

"They had promised they were going to work on some stuff. Right now, it's just speculation. There's nothing concrete. We're at November 12, the season's moving quickly. I'd love to see more action."
