Mike Babcock issues first comment but he accepts no responsibility
Today Mike Babcock's NHL coaching career came to an end. Babcock stepped down as head coach of the Columbus Blue Jackets just one week before the start of training camps. His resignation comes after an investigation was launched into his behaviour during player meetings in which players felt uncomfortable.
Now, Babcock has released his own statement and not surprisingly he accepted no responsibility, instead he attempts to take the moral high ground. In his statement Babcock mentions trying to do what's best for the franchise, while ignoring his own actions.
Upon reflection, it has become clear that continuing as head coach of the Columbus Blue Jackets was going to be too much of a distraction. While I'm disappointed to not have had the opportunity to continue the work we've begun, I know it's in the best interest of the organization for me to step away at this time. I wish everyone in the organization well in the upcoming season.
Babcock refuses to acknowledge any of his actions in this statement, instead choosing to paint the situation as a distraction. Every time he's been given an opportunity to taken responsibility he's decided to go another route.
At this point, the National Hockey League is better off without Babcock in the league.
