Playing in the National Hockey League is every young hockey player's dream. For many they never get the opportunity to play at a competitive level, but for the lucky few they get to live their dream. Nate Thompson was a 6th round pick who grew up in Anchorage, Alaska.

The odds of him making the NHL were always very slim. But due to hardwork and dedication that's exactly what he did. Not only did he make the NHL he carved out a very impressive 844 game career.
This week Thompson appeared on the Empty Netters Podcast and announced that after 15 seasons in the National Hockey League that he'd decided to retire.
From the time I was 4 until 38 hockey has been my life and best friend. I'm beyond grateful and thankful for all the great people I've met and friendships I've made. All good things must come to an end so thank you to all who supported me along this journey.✌🏼❤️
Thompson, now 38, was loved for his hard-nosed style. He played 15 seasons with 9 different teams. In that time he scored 65 goals and added 99 assists for 164 points.
Thompson was never flashy, but he was the type of guy every team needs. The guy not afraid to play a role when his team needs him. Congrats on a great career Nate.
