It's always a positive for the game when new rivalries are created, and extend beyond the players to the fans. Judging by last night's matchup between the Maple Leafs and Panthers, it seems there's another rivalry growing.
Last season as the Leafs eliminated the Tampa Bay Lightning in the playoffs, fans could be heard outside the arena chanting 'We Want Florida!' which was captured on a viral video. The fans wishes didn't work out so well, as the Panthers took care of the Leafs easily in only five games, and went on to advance to the Stanley Cup Finals.
Last night during their first matchup since the playoffs, Florida fans were rowdy and sarcastically chanting 'We Want Florida!' back to the Leafs and their fans.
There's a possibility these teams could once again meet in the playoffs this year if both live up to expectations, and if so, it'll undoubtedly be a fantastic series.
