Don Cherry Releases a touching statement
Don Cherry, the iconic voice of hockey, found himself in controversy, notably leading to his exit from Hockey Night in Canada. Back on November 9, 2019, during a Coach's Corner segment, Cherry criticized Canadians for not buying poppies in support of Remembrance Day.
While his remarks lacked eloquence, Cherry's intent was evident a heartfelt attempt to back veterans, a cause he had long championed. Beyond the memorable rant resulting in his dismissal, a subsequent video showcased Cherry's deep patriotism and love for fallen heroes.
"In Trelinkin, British cemetery in France on November 11th, I want everybody to remember,"
Cherry stated in the video, walking past rows of Canadian graves. Kneeling at Thomas William MacKenzie's gravestone, Cherry emphasized the importance of supporting veterans.
"When you see our great Legion guys offering you a poppy, think of all this. These guys gave their lives... at least you can buy a poppy," added Cherry emotionally.
Four years later, the significance of his message remains undiminished.
