Last night's game between the Arizona Coyotes and New York Rangers unravelled in the late stages of the game when one star player slewfooted another, which led to a massive scrum at the close out the game.
Coyotes' star Clayton Keller was tied up in a puck battle with Adam Fox, and while getting up after falling to the ice, Keller clearly swept Fox's legs out from under him.
Possibly only for precautionary reasons in the third period of an early-season game, but Fox did have to leave the ice for the remainder of the game. That must have motivated his Rangers teammates for payback, as the team initiated a line brawl as the clock wound down on the game.
It was a display of a surprisingly competitive Coyotes team, who put up a fight and kept a close game with the Cup-contending New York Rangers. Perhaps with their team coming together to fight as one, the Coyotes could have a much improved season this year compared to last. The Rangers, as expected, also have all the ingredients necessary for a long run into the playoffs - and showed their team toughness last night.
