12 season NHL vet hangs up his skates for the last time

After 12 seasons in the NHL, spending time with 6 different teams, veteran defenceman Nick Holden has decided to call it a career at the age of 36.

The news was made official on Tuesday afternoon and in a press release. The Vegas Golden Knights also made the announcement that Holden would be joining their player development staff.

"We are pleased to have Nick join our organization as a member of our development staff," General Manager Kelly McCrimmon said. "Nick was widely respected by management, teammates, and coaches during his time with the Golden Knights as a player. He fills an important role with our player development and will work not only with our drafted prospects but also with our young pros with the Henderson Silver Knights."

Holden, player in 654 career NHL games with the Columbus Blue Jackets, Colorado Avalanche, New York Rangers, Boston Bruins, Vegas Golden Knights and the Ottawa Senators. Holden spent the last 2 seasons with the Senators. In those 654 games, Holden scored 178 points and tallied 174 penalty minutes, while registering 17 points in 55 Stanley Cup Playoff games.
