Calgary Flames Forwards Season Comes To An End After Gruesome Injury
The Calgary Flames aimed to break a three-game losing streak as they hosted the Columbus Blue Jackets last night.
In the second period, Calgary forward AJ Greer chased after a loose puck in the Blue Jackets' zone and collided with Columbus defenseman Jake Bean. The impact sent Greer awkwardly into the boards, resulting in a nasty twist to his ankle.
At 27 years old, Greer joined the Flames at the start of the season after being claimed off waivers, having missed the cut for the Boston Bruins roster. He showcased his effectiveness for the Bruins last season, contributing 7 goals, 12 points, and accumulating 114 penalty minutes in 61 games.
This season, Greer has notched 4 goals and 10 points in 46 games.
Wishing for a less severe injury than it appears in the video, as long-term setbacks can be particularly challenging for players in fourth-line roles. Greer's absence creates an opportunity for another player to potentially secure a permanent position higher on the depth chart.
