Insider reveals six team trying to trade for Winnipeg Jets Nikolaj Ehlers
Six teams have emerged in the sweepstakes to acquire Winnipeg Jets forward Nik Ehlers. The teams include the Boston, Bruins, Carolina Hurricanes, Ottawa, Senators,
This summer, Winnipeg Jets forward Nikolaj Ehlers will be a sought-after commodity on the trade market. Although it's difficult to predict when a deal will close, six teams have already expressed interest in him.
The Fourth Period's David Pagnotta is cited by Scott Billeck of The Winnipeg Sun as saying that Nikolaj Ehlers has been linked to six different National Hockey League teams. These teams are the Seattle Kraken, Ottawa Senators, New Jersey Devils, Boston Bruins, Carolina Hurricanes, and Columbus Blue Jackets.
"Boston is one rumoured suitor, as are Seattle, Ottawa, Columbus, Carolina and New Jersey, among others." Billeck said.
This news comes less than a month after a report from Murat Ates of The Athletic stating that the Winnipeg Jets have made Nikolaj Ehlers for trade.
"It's also true that Ehlers' playoff resume will haunt him until he overcomes it. Nothing is promised on that front, and it's looking less and less likely that he'll get the opportunity to improve upon that resume in Winnipeg. The Jets are indeed in the process of a head coaching search one wonders if new leadership could change what seems like an inevitable exit but I believe that Ehlers will be shopped ahead of the NHL Draft." Ates said.
He added, "Ehlers has been shopped before, but never so seriously that talks reached the boiling point. Things could be different this summer."
Then this past week, David Pagnotta provided more fuel to the fire regarding Ehlers and trade possibilities as the 28-year-old forward has reportedly told the Jets that he's not interested in signing a contract extension.
"According to a well-placed source close to the Jets, Ehlers is not interested in signing a contract extension with the club and that is primarily why Winnipeg GM Kevin Cheveldayoff is exploring his options via the trade market." Pagnotta said.
Aalborg, Denmark native Ehlers played in all 82 regular season games for Winnipeg, recording his seventh NHL season with 20 or more goals. Ehlers finished with 61 points (25 goals, 36 assists), 29 penalty minutes, and a plus-27 rating in those 82 games. In five Stanley Cup Playoff games, he earned two assists.
All eyes will be on Nikolaj Ehlers and the Winnipeg Jets as the trade market heats up in the upcoming weeks to see if anything can be done to give the Danish forward a new start anywhere.
