The Washington Capitals season came to a disappointing end over the weekend, getting swept by the New York Rangers, the Metropolitan Division champions. With the tough series behind them, the Capitals could be in for some significant roster changes this summer.

During their season-ending media availability on Tuesday, T.J. Oshie addressed reporters, expressing his desire to return for the 2024-25 season. However, uncertainty looms due to his ongoing back issues, which required surgery in 2023.

"In my mind, it would be hard for me to ever for sure say that that I'm stepping away from the game. I'd love to play next year but I will need to come back with somewhat of a guarantee that my back won't beit's hard putting everyone through this situation. From my family at home, to the team, trying to figure out a lineup, to young guys getting called up and going down. I'd like to find a an answer and just a fix to the problem before I make another run at it." Oshie said.

Oshie, 37, underwent back surgery after the 2022-23 season, which greatly improved his condition after struggling with injuries throughout that campaign. Despite missing time due to his back, Oshie managed to contribute on the ice, tallying 25 points in 52 games during the regular season and adding one assist in the playoffs.

With one year left on his contract with a $5.75 million cap hit, the Capitals may consider placing him on long-term injured reserve (LTIR) if he's unable to play in the upcoming season.
