Elias Lindholm's Future With The Canucks Uncertain After Recent Struggles
The Vancouver Canucks high-profile acquisition of Elias Lindholm from the Calgary Flames at the trade deadline hasn't panned out as the team had envisioned.
Is Elias Lindholm's time with the Vancouver Canucks already winding down?
When Lindholm, a seasoned center with stints at the Flames and Hurricanes, joined the Canucks, there were high hopes that he'd become a cornerstone for the team. However, his early performance has left much to be desired.
In his first 19 games with Vancouver, Lindholm has managed only 3 goals and 7 points, accompanied by a -5 on the ice, leading to a pause in any discussions about a contract extension.
«Initially when we made the deal, I talked to his camp and said our intention was to sign him,» Allvin said. «But obviously it's got to work for both sides. We'll see. I think it's been a little bit of an adjustment time for him. And in fairness, the whole team hasn't played great, we knew we were going to have a tough February schedule workload-wise, it was heavy and we got out of it with a .500 record which is the reason we're still sitting at the top I think.»
«But as I said earlier, we've got guys who haven't played in important games in March.»
Remarks from Canucks General Manager Patrik Allvin hint at a bleak future for Lindholm with the team, although his playoff experience could still offer a glimmer of hope for a turnaround. Despite this, the substantial contract he declined from Calgary last summer suggests Lindholm and his agent value his contributions highly, which may price Vancouver out of extending his stay.
