During the Stanley Cup playoffs, Demko suffered an undisclosed knee injury that kept him out of the lineup. Eventually, the Canucks fizzled out in the second round against the Edmonton Oilers. Now, there are reports that Demko won't even be ready to go in time for training camp. This is worrying, and fans are being sent into a tailspin of sorts.
Recently, a doctor by the name of Harjas Grewal weighed in on the Demko reports. With the knowledge that Demko got knee surgery at the beginning of the summer, Dr. Grewal believes the Demko situation may be worse than originally believed.
As he explains, there have been numerous rumblings that Demko tore his ACL. Moreover, when you throw surgery into the mix, this would lead to a recovery that could take over five months to complete. Given this timeline, Demko could very well miss the start of the NHL regular season, altogether.
This would be disastrous for the Vancouver Canucks, who have been in desperate need of some consistent goaltending. Overall, Demko has been able to provide that. Last season, he had a GAA of 2.45 and a save percentage of 0.918. Hopefully, he is able to get healthy, otherwise, Canucks fans will be thinking about what could have been.
