BREAKING: The Canucks Are Exploring The Possibility Of Trading Elias Pettersson
The Vancouver Canucks, currently neck and neck for second place in the league, have just acquired center Elias Lindholm, signaling their all-in approach for the Stanley Cup run. Yet, amidst this excitement, a question mark hangs over the team: the future of Elias Pettersson.
Elliotte Friedman reports that while the Canucks are fielding inquiries about Pettersson, they're also making efforts to secure his signature for an extension. The length of such a deal remains uncertain. Despite these efforts, Pettersson hasn't shown a willingness to commit to a new contract, pushing the Canucks to consider trade possibilities.
At 25 years old, and picked fifth overall in the 2017 draft, Pettersson has been impressive this season with 29 goals and 45 assists in 60 games, accumulating 74 points. His performance suggests that if Vancouver manages to keep him, he's in line to become one of the league's top earners.
However, Pettersson's reluctance to commit has left the Canucks in a bind. Should they decide to move him, they're likely to demand a hefty return. Time is still on their side to work something out, but with each passing day, Pettersson's long-term future with the Canucks seems more uncertain.
