Unfortunately, that became a much harder task due to an unfortunate play that occurred during tonight's preseason game against the Montreal Canadiens. While going for the puck, Nick Robertson took his stick and pushed William Nylander closer to the play. However, Nylander fell over and the Habs player accidentally kneed him in the head on the way down.
Subsequently, Nylander had to go back to the locker room to get checked out and he has yet to return to the game. It was a truly horrible play and Robertson is getting some serious flack about it right now. Overall, many fans were already at their wits end with Robertson, and this is the straw that has broken the camel's back.
Even Sportsnet analyst Nick Kypreos couldn't believe what he was seeing. He went off on Robertson and called his effort "Bush League." Ultimately, it isn't hard to see why he would feel this way. Robertson showed absolutely zero care for his own teammate and it has come back to bite him.
Robertson is fighting for a roster spot, and after his recent contract negotiation, one has to wonder if the Leafs even want him. Robertson had initially wanted a trade, but no dice. After injuring a teammate, the Leafs may have no choice but to make a move.
