Over a month ago, we reported on how the Philadelphia Flyers put Ryan Johansen on waivers in an effort to release him from the team and terminate his contract.

This was an incredibly controversial decision as there were reports around Johansen's injury and whether or not it was truly that bad. In the eyes of the Flyers, Johansen was never going to play again. Moreover, it seemed as though they were accusing him of not being transparent with the franchise throughout the process.
Johansen noted that he would be filing a grievance against the Flyers or would at least get the NHLPA involved. Well, he followed through on just that, and today, the NHLPA announced that it would be filing the grievance on Johansen's behalf. This was a huge decision and it has sent shockwaves throughout the NHL.
However, many NHL fans do not agree with the decision. In fact, some believes that the PA is letting Johansen off of the hook. In the eyes of some fans, he is allegedly faking it. Although there is no proof of this, some believe that Johansen is out here trying to avoid John Tortorella. The fan reactions tell an interesting tale, with many hoping that Johansen's efforts fall short.
Only time will tell whether or not Johansen is going to be able to win this grievance. As you can imagine, there are a lot of variables at play here. Having said that, there are never any guarantees with this sort of thing. There is a lot at stake, especially as it pertains to player empowerment in the NHL.
